What you may and may not do with the ArtStarters product line

Just a quick summary of the technicalities and the philosophy which, in a nutshell, grants you unlimited creative freedom, but prohibits the theft of my bread and preferably keeps my butter safe too. And if you have plans which would enable both of us to buy bigger jars of jam, I might be very interested.

You may freely distribute my unmodified freebies, but obviously not the commercial products, for how would I feed the family then?

However, you may use any of my work as a basis and/or inspiration to create your own unique art - it is after all the purpose of ArtStarters to start new art.

How much change is enough to transfer copyright from me to you? Ask your conscience. If you are not sure, send me a link to where your work is uploaded and we can discuss it - I won't be unreasonable if you aren't.

Also use the email address at the top of this page if you want to share business ideas which involve ArtStarters directly (no use even trying to recruit me for unrelated ventures, sorry).

May I Modify ArtStarters?

YES! You are in fact encouraged to play with them in all of your favorite graphics editors, and change them from ArtStarters into REAL Art. Though there are many ways to use them without modifications too, their basic purpose is to inspire you towards creating art that you can feel proud to call your own.

May I share/distribute ArtStarters?

Only the freebies, NOT the commercial products,
unless you have modified them beyond recognition,
in which case you may claim copyright with a clear conscience.

Permission is also granted for including the freebies in software archives and on CDs that are distributed with magazines.

If you do want to distribute unmodified or somewhat modified versions of my work, get in touch and tell me all the why's, how's and what's in it for both of us, and we'll take it from there. If your ideas include some benefit for kids, I'd be doubly interested in your proposal, by the way.

May I use ArtStarters for educational and/or therapeutic purposes?

If you do, you'll make my dream come true! And once you've seen how kids and hurt souls respond to ArtStarters, you'll understand why I'm so passionate about it.

More about the philosophy elsewhere (before I get side-tracked!) - Much as I'd love to, I can not yet afford to sponsor educational and therapeutic projects. I also realize that funding is often a problem in situations where education and/or therapy are most needed, so my plans include ways and means to make some miracles happen.

In these early stages of development, if at all possible please buy the standard version for each individual who will be using it, and know that you are contributing to the Bigger Picture. Depending on the quantity involved, bulk discounts may apply when you order through On-Disk.com.

  • If you are a helper who really-really needs help, give me the details and I'll do what I can.
  • If you have similar ideals, I'd like to hear from you, too
  • If you're a sponsor who wants to create miracles, we'll kiss your toes...

May I make gifts from ArtStarters?

If you intend personal usage only, you can basically do what you want with my pictures and 3D models - that includes making gifts for friends and family.

But if you want to sell the gifts you made or use them for promotional purposes, please read the next section too:

I want to use ArtStarters in a commercial project

I'll probably say yes if you twist my arm with a fair offer...

There are several factors that could influence the price of a commercial license. If you contributed more to the final product than I did, you're entitled to a larger slice of the pie, and vice versa. So we'll handle each situation on its own merits. Tell me about your plans and let's negotiate an agreement that makes both of us happy.

May I Use ArtStarters in handcrafts?

YES, please do, and send me a link to your photos or post them here (click the Contest Entries -link at the top of the page.

Being an avid handcrafter myself, I can get lyrical about all the possibilities ArtStarters present in this field, but there just aren't enough hours in a day to make examples of everything I conjure up in my mind.

So, if you have a reputable web page where you exhibit such crafts, we could probably exchange links. Additionally, if you use the term "Made with ArtStarters" on your page and in your meta tags, you can benefit from my promotional efforts (and you might qualify to win prizes too - see the forum for contest details).

Here's the code you can copy and paste into your web pages:

May I Resell ArtStarters CDs?

Yes, as long as it's authentic, complete, unmodified, legitimately bought CDs, you may buy and sell as many as you like, and set your own mark-up.

In fact it could provide you with a viable income - I already give a significant discount on my bulk products which are sold through On-Disk.com, and they provide further wholesale discount options. As you'll see when you do research on it, the retail prices on similar products are usually much higher than mine.

When in doubt about any licensing issues, please contact me (I usually don't bite :).

Business proposals

As long as it is...

  • directly related to ArtStarters
  • above-board and legal
  • not too time-consuming
  • requires no financial investment from me (I'm willing to contribute content, time & skills)
  • and again, directly related to ArtStarters

...I'll probably be interested. You are welcome to let me know what you have in mind...
